I was having lunch with Kuya Junior, ate Linda, Len, Bong, when Bong showed me his phone with the news that basketball super star Kobe Bryant died from a helicopter crash. My initial reaction was “naku fake news yan. That’s fake news”.
We were all shocked when the news turned out to be true. And not only that, eight other people perished including his young daughter. So very very sad.
What happened left all of us in disbelief. Same feeling we all had when Michael Jackson died, when Lady Diana died.
We see legends, international celebrities, people of great stature and success, as indomitable. When they die, it’s hard to comprehend because we see them as immortals.
There are many speculations about the cause of the accident. I personally believe that it is a bad judgment flying in heavy fog. Too confident.
All Kobe Bryant merchandise flew out of store shelves nationwide and globally after the news of his tragic death came out. Nike decided to pull off the shelves Kobe Bryant merchandise because they said they didn’t want to make a profit out of dead people. They can continue selling Kobe’s items and use all profits for charity. Nike would be able to help poor people in Kobe Bryant’s name. That’s a very good way of honoring this basketball legend.
RIP Kobe
He is a good role model, but he doesn’t talk to his mother.
