Quite a number of people are making kumusta si Antonia, our kusinera.

Lately, I’ve been guilty of bad manners. I completely ignored her a couple of times while she was saying something. I turned my back and went inside the dining area. I didn’t mean to disrespect her. I just wanted to save my sanity.

OMB———— “Anon’g lulutuin mo bukas para kay mam Oyen?”
Antonia——– “Pork giniling, pork, grilled pork, ay laman ng pork”.
I looked at the ceiling and took a deep breath”.
OMB———— “Di ba ayaw ni mam ng pork?”

OMB———— “Hindi mo nilagyan ng luya itong nilagang baka, kaya malansa”.
Antonia——– “Kala ko wala tayong luya”.
OMB———— “Marami tayong luya. Pampaalis ng lansa ang luya. Dapat pag nilagang karne merong luya”.

The next day she cooked fresh oyster mushroom soup and put a lot of luya.
Edmund——— “Hmm, parang salabat”.

OMB———— “Antonia, ang ginisang gulay (sayote) hindi nilalagyan ng luya. Bakit ang daming luya nito?”

OMB———— “Hotdog? Dinner namin hotdog?”
Antonia——- “para kay sir Nyke”.
E————- “kami lang ni mam ang kakain”.

Antonia——- “Mam, gusto mo ibuka ko yung niyog?”
OMB———– “Wala akong biniling niyog. BUKO!”
Antonia——- “Ibuka ko?”

Next day:
OMB———— “Antonia, anong ulam natin mamayang gabi?”
Antonia——– “Pilit”.
OMB———— “Pilit, anong pilit?”
Antonia——– “Yung pilit, iluto ko mam, tinimplahan ko na”.
OMB———— “Anong ulam yun?”
Antonia——– “Pilit, bip pilit”.
