It has become our family’s tradition to have a Chinese dragon and / or lion come to our place on Chinese New Year’s day. They dance around our house to the beat of the drums, gongs, and cymbals.
This year, only two lions came because the dragons were busy dancing in Binondo.
There are a few myths regarding the origin of the Southern Lion and the Northern Lion but to put simply, the Lion Dance is for prosperity.
A dragon or lion dance ritual ends with feeding it with angpao for financial prosperity, with the belief that the money would come back a million folds.
I wish all OMB readers prosperity (thru legal and ethical means).
