The art exhibit for the benefit of Pilapila’s parish ended last Sunday. I hope they were able to sell some more pieces on the last day.

Every time I would go over each painting, the artists would all keep quiet, as if holding their breathes. Their silence was almost audible. “Alin kaya ang magustuhan ni Annie?” “Sana akin magustuhan nya.”
Can you imagine if you were the artist? Meron kang obra maestra tapos walang makagusto? Di ba medyo depressing.

I went twice last week and each time, I came home with some pieces. I just wanted to support their cause. And of course, patronize their talents.

I love art. But I cannot afford naman to buy every piece that I get to like. But I love going to galleries and art exhibits just to look and admire. Like for example, when I went to SM Aura last year. I was so in-love with the paintings of Fernando Amorsolo. The smallest was the size of an A4 bond paper, nay ko po P4,000,000. I wish they have a 1″ x 1″ baka mas affordable.

Yesterday morning, I was looking for a document. I didn’t find it, instead, I found a stale check in the amount of P95,000. One year na. I totally forgot that someone owed me money and I forgot to deposit the check. I immediately informed the person. I was relieved after she recognized her obligation and agreed to pay me back. After an hour, she messaged me and instead of paying me in cash she offered to give me a painting instead and the rest she would pay me in two installments. She mentioned the name of the artist, teka sino na nga ba…
ay naku I forgot. Ow, Angel Cacnio, father of Michael Cacnio, the sculptor.
I prefer cash sana but okay na rin kesa hindi ako mabayaran. The subject daw is Mother and Child. Edmund will tease me again- that our paintings are mostly Mother and Child.

Last week I went to a gallery on the lower ground floor of Podium. I liked the flowery painting of Sanso. I don’t have a Sanso yet, ang mahal na ngayon. Sana I bought even a small one 20 years ago, P5,000 lang. 20 years ago? P5,000 was already big. Baka nga wala tayong P5,000 nuon.

Here are the paintings I brought home last Saturday.
The artist, Jhune Bernardo, suggested that I hang this “Parrots” in the garden. Hindi kaya mabasa at mabulok?
This is the second painting I bought from Jhune. The first one is mother and child.

He has won several art competitions.
Some of his works are displayed in Paseo Rizal.

Robi Perdiguerra is the current president of their art association.
He has also won several art competitions here and abroad. Edmund likes his style. His works are compared by his colleagues to Oscar Salita (deceased), who’s a product of my alma mater, UST.

Tres Pilyas
Tres Pilyas by Robi Perdiguerra

The original name of this painting is Blue Umbrella. I requested him to change it to Vigan House so I could easily remember and identify. Pinakialaman ko pati title. He willingly obliged naman.

I was also there last August 2 despite the heavy rains. It’s faster to travel to Binangonan on Sundays kasi less traffic.

I caught Councillor Rey Punelas conducting a one on one art class and at the same time doing an on the spot portrait. I’ve been asked before (BEFORE MEANS 30 YEARS AGO) to pose for known artists pero mainipin ako. I would not be able to keep still while they paint my face.

One of this days I would do that.

Rey was commissioned by San Agustin Church to do 80 portraits of priests- dead priests. Isasabit yata sa museum. Sana yung mata kahit saan ka pumunta eh nakatingin sayo para nakaka takot, pang museum talaga.

Rey is a graduate of Fine Arts from the University of Santo Tomas (UST). He has received several awards.

Fuente del Diablo by Peter
I bought this because it has relevance in my life.
I grew up hearing the Alamat ng Fuente del Diablo from my parents and teachers.
The Fuente is the black rock formations.

I forgot the title of this painting. The artist, Bong Anore, has won several national art competitions besting over 600 contestants each time. He was invited to do a solo on the spot painting by Shangrila.
Hallmark bought the rights to one of his Christmas carol series for their Christmas cards. Go USte!

Happy naman ako when they thanked me profusely for my wholehearted support and appreciation of their works.
