Several years ago, I got hold of the cellular phone number of Freddie Aguilar. I wanted to get him sana to perform a few songs including the most famous Anak at Edmund’s birthday party at our house lang. A friend of mine happened to know him personally being the owner of the house where Freddie was staying (that time). My friend warned me though that he himself couldn’t afford his high professional fee. My friend’s warning didn’t deter me from contacting Freddie Aguilar directly.

I did not haggle kasi nakakahiya naman. And how does one begin to ask for discount starting from 350,000. My budget was only for P50,000. Ang layo, parang Batanes to Jolo. Edmund said it’s not worth it kasi we’re only having a simple gathering of 20 friends. Hindi sulit to spend that much. Unless, it’s a concert at the Araneta Coliseum.
Although he didn’t get to sing at Edmund’s birthday dinner, I made it to his list of text mates for a few months. Once a week, I received a standard invitation which he sent to all his text mates, friends, and relatives to patronize his bar restaurant. I really wanted to go and bring friends, mga taga Binangonan, employees, etc. But since the venue (Mabini) is out of the way from where I work and live, hindi na natuloy. Then when I asked my staff to call to reserve a table for 20 people, Wala na. Close na pala.
Sayang. Edmund and I would have enjoyed watching him perform.
