A classmate from college, Merly, was recently in town from Los Angeles where she’s been based for more than 10 years. Her husband was left behind in the Philippines while waiting for his petition to be approved. After waiting for many years, he emigrated to the US 15 months ago and was re-united with Merly and their son who now has his own family.
Last October, he was coming home from work at Home Depot and was about to cross the street near their residence when he was hit by a speeding car being chased by the police. Merly’s husband suffered internal injuries and died within minutes after he was brought to the hospital.
Merly’s house was very near the place of the accident, in fact that evening, she even heard the police sirens and ambulance. Little did she know that her husband was the victim. She only found out a few hours later when policemen came knocking on her door.
Merly’s last visit to the Philippines was 8 years ago. She said she’s depressed and decided to come and visit her sisters and relatives to keep her mind-off the tragedy.
Edmund invited her over and some of his UST seatmates for a simple merienda at home.
She was so attached to Stitch she cuddled him the whole time. Buti na lang bagong ligo si Stitch.
Bernie Rillo, Merly and Eric Gallardo. Eric kept on smelling Stitch “mabango pa sa akin”.
She was also attracted to our little toilet
and to the scented toilet paper that I brought home from Ikebukuro. I gave her a roll to bring home to LA but the one with a different design and unscented.
