Mexican food is normally not in his list of favorites but tonight my husband agreed to have some salsa with me.
He ordered grilled steak and it came with salsa, guacamole, and tortilla chips.
Just like the Philippines, the Spanish Conquistadores colonized Mexico. The Spaniards were the ones who named the tomato condiment salsa although this combination of tomatillo and chilies has been a staple food of the Aztecs way back in 3000 BC. The same as the world-renowned tortilla. The Spanish first called it tortilla from the word tort which means “cake” but it’s been around for thousands of years. Natives called it tlaxcalli.
I wasn’t very hungry so I just ordered a bowl of chicken vegetable soup but I didn’t know that the bowl would be this huge. I couldn’t finish it.
The Mexicans have successfully penetrated the North American palate. They have beautiful restaurants and bars all across the US.
