Modern Japanese Dishes at Iyasare in Berkeley

We had a post Valentines dinner on February 15 with our favorite couple Dennis and Sylvia. It was they who picked this Japanese restaurant called IYASARE. Located along Fourth Street in Berkeley, a chic neighborhood in this university town.

Iyasare
I hope there’ll be no more mutations of Covid so we could go back to freely  enjoying dining indoors and outdoors without feeling paranoid.

The Apple store across Iyasare has a permanent police unit guarding  it to deter thieves from grabbing merchandise.   Stealing has been trivialized in America and this has emboldened criminals.  They no longer fear restitution.

Excited patrons wait to secure their tables.  It’s impossible to get accommodated without prior reservation.

Face masks and vaccination cards were required.

We chose to sit inside because it was chilly outside.

This salad was so good and refreshing.  The serving was good to share.

Sizzling squid) was very flavorful.  Everything in it was delicious.

I wanted tempura but their version is like okoy or vegetable pancake.  It’s okay but I would like the traditional tempura instead.

The ingredients were chopped in small pieces including shrimps. Mixed with batter and fried. It reminds me of okoy.

Dennis and Edmund each had a big bowl of ramen.
We tried the recommended desserts and both were good.

Edmund liked the cheesecake dessert.  It’s light and not sweet.

This lovely couple loves to travel to France and Italy. They also love fine cuisine and would travel far and wide to experience fantastic dishes. They’ve been inviting us to join them in Paris, and spend Christmas in Strasbourg but our schedules don’t quite jive. Edmund and I will just retrace their steps so we could also experience the beautiful places, hotels, restaurants they’ve been to.

After the topic of travel subsided, the conversation went to politics. Three are for Leni Robredo, and one they suspect is for BBM. No amount of reasoning would make sense to the 3 Lenis as to why BBM. I think when it comes to politics, acceptance is the key. Accept what others think even if it doesn’t make sense to you and don’t ask anymore why he/she is voting for another candidate. Otherwise you will get aghast and the emotion and inis are not worth it.

I was happy that Sylvia and Atty. Dennis had chosen Iyasare for our dinner tonight. I enjoyed the food, the place, of course their company.

I vouched to bring my son here in the near future. And Oyen too, maybe in 2023 or 2024.
