I couldn’t say no to Nemiranda. Although it was almost zero visibility because of heavy rains, I didn’t think twice going to Alabang to attend the opening ceremony of his art exhibit at the De La Salle Santiago Zobel upon the invitation of the school’s president.
I suspected he only invited a few people that’s why I was afraid to be late.
He said 2 pm. I was also worried about my driver’s capability to find the school that’s why I needed to give extra time.
When we reached the Ayala Alabang gate, I told him to ask for directions to the De La Salle Santiago Zobel school.
Driver—– ‘pre, kasamahan namin sila. Kay Zobel.
A———- “Sa La Salle school”.
The sec. came to my rescue and told the guard….. “San papunta kay Santiago”.
A———-“La Salle!:
Sec——–“Kay Santiago La Salle”.
Guard ——-“Diretso, sa dulo kanan”
We passed by rows of huge houses. There was a mansion on the right side of the road. My driver stopped…. “Mam, si Zobel”.
A————“Bahay yan, diretso pa, La Salle school ang pupuntahan natin”.
Two blocks, he slowed down upon seeing another big house.
A————:Diretso pa, bahay yan”.
We almost missed the gate.
A———–“Hayan, pumasok tayo sa gate”.
Driver——“Ito ba si Zobel?”
A———–“La Salle, tanungin mo kung saan yung museum”.
Driver——“San yung Zobel museum”.
The sec. corrected him “Santiago museum!”
I was a little too early. While waiting, I met the mom of Sen. Koko Pimentel, Mrs. Lourdes Pimentel. She and her niece, Ruth Isla, were also early because they were afraid of the traffic too.
I was a little recluse. I didn’t want to join in front and sit in front. I just stood at the back and watched.

Mrs. Lourdes Pimentel said she’s the representative of her son Senator Koko Pimentel who is a Nemiranda art patron.
The Department of Tourism promotes tours to the art galleries in Angono but according to its Regional Director (CALABARZON), Rebecca Labit, the heavy traffic going to the town remains to be a deterrent.
