1. For dinner, I cooked the big dalag I bought from the market. It was my first time to cook pangat na dalag kasi we only ate pangat in restaurants in Rizal. I put more soup kasi we liked soup. When Edmund went to the dirty kitchen and saw what I was cooking, he said “Masarap yan!” Naku na pressure tuloy ako. Eh first time ko lang magluluto nito. Although my cooking has always been generally good or passing mark to say the least, iba yung good sa masarap. Masarap means the best. This pangat is far from being the best.

2. I fell asleep too early last night, at 9 pm. I was awake again by 1 am. I impulsively stood up and went out of the bedroom. As I walked past the altar, I noticed the battery-operated candles. Their warm glow hugged my heart. It gave me some pensive thoughts.

3. I got a glass of water in the kitchen. I saw the second box of spring rolls. I ate the first box the night before. #midnightsnackagain
second box, spring roll, Phoa

When we first discovered Phoa, the spring rolls were a lot thicker and longer. As the years went by, their rolls became thinner and the slices became skinnier. One serving is now almost half the quantity of what it was like originally.

4. I went back to bed and woke up at exactly 3 am, same as the previous night. I went down to get water. I saw the sunflower I bought from the market. Mukhang lantutay na. The leaves were wilting.

Oh my the maid forgot to water it. I instructed her to water it, obviously she didn’t.

I moved the sunflower closer to the sink and watered it. Buti na lang napansin ko na mukhang naghihingalo na, kawawa. Otherwise, bukas, wala na, goodbye P180 ko.

5. I peaked thru the kitchen door. My son’s basketball sits on the bench. Malungkot pala pag madaling araw. Kaya those people who have sleep disorder are susceptible to depression. Eh kasi nga, gising sila while the whole world sleeps. Wala silang makausap.

7. Makati commercial district at 10:20 am. Construction of new skyscrapers continue. If buyers of condos would be required to submit proof of income or financial capability, baka magcollapse ang real estate market. Filipinos have a strong support system. Families voluntary pitch-in to help their families / relatives buy real estate. Sa probinsya namin, ang gaganda ng bahay, pero yung mga nakatira walang mga trabaho, umaasa lang sa padala galing abroad. Pero yung bahay at lupa sa kanila nakapangalan. A lot of them bought tiny condos also with the monthly payments coming from a sibling in Australia, the mother in Dubai, the brother in Los Angeles, etc. nag-aambag-ambag sila. So how do you reconcile that? “Ang laki ng bahay, siguro merong ginagawang illegal?” One of our company drivers owns a two bedroom condo in Greenhills. Daig pa kami. How could he afford that? His wife has been living and working in the US for twenty five years. TNT. She sends some $750 a month for the amortization. They also have a nice house in the province. And a car too!

8. My friend Madeline has stopped eating rice for at least a year. I should do the same thing. But how can I enjoy kare-kare without rice? What’s crispy bacon without steaming hot rice?
A slight increase in the size of my front bumpers is one drawback from eating kilos and kilos of rice. Now I have to shop for a new pair. No big deal. Just one size bigger.
