Oyen accidentally tore the cornea of her eye

Edmund and I just finished breakfast when Oyen came down from her room all dressed up ready for work. She said her left eye was so painful and asked for a good eye doctor.

Edmund advised her to put eye drops and concluded that she has sore eyes. I suspected that she accidentally scratched her eye while she was sleeping.

Yen cancelled all her meetings for the day and instead we headed to the clinic of Dra. Jocelyn Regalado, an ophthalmologist. She’s the wife of Nyke’s pediatrician, Dr. Joseph Regalado.

The secretary there have fantastic memory. She still remembers my son.

Dra. Regalado discovered a horizontal scratch in Oyen’s cornea, the transparent front part of the eye that covers the pupil, iris, and anterior chamber.

She put eye drops with anesthesia and dye to see what was wrong with her eye.

Do you see the horizontal line right in the middle of her eye? That’s the long tear most likely scratched by her fingernails while she was sleeping.
A corneal abrasion or scratched eye can happen when you poke your eye or napuing ka. If something gets in your eye like sand or any dirt.

From the hospital, we went straight to Mercury Drug in Greenhills to buy the two prescriptions.

I told her to cut her fingernails and wear mittens like those worn by babies. The doctor told her to rest at home, lay down and barred her from watching television, using her cellphone and computer for 24 hours at least.

  2. Anne I have the same problem ! I accidentally hit my right eye with the corner of plastic pack of tshirts while fixing a door to door box ! I can’t open it after and my doctor said cornea laseration and mine is worst because the second layer of the eye got loosen up so it keep rubbing it and causing the breakout ! Since June I’ve been seeing my cornea specialist and hopefully it get better ! And hopefully Oyen eye will get better soon !

    1. The doctor said it’s rare that this happens. It will take 6 to 8 weeks before the cornea fully attaches itself or else it could recur.
You have to regularly put the prescribed eye drops 3-8 times a day. What happened to you is a freak accident. I hope your eye fully recovers.
