Santo Entierro - Oh My Buhay

Santo Entierro

Our family doesn’t go on vacations during Holy Week. We participate in our religious traditions:  Procession on Holy Wednesday,  Visita Iglesia on Holy Thursday and we are here in Poblacion every Good Friday.

As far as I can remember, the procession in Binangonan has always been like this. The number of devotees keeps growing, including the retinue of santos that’s why the procession gets longer every year, except this year because the crowd split in 3 ways, with Pilapila getting a big chunk. With the construction of their new church came their own religious festivities including their own processions.

The most important character in the Byernes Santo street procession is the Santo Entierro, the  image of the dead Jesus Christ lying in a wooden carriage. The procession is not a parade but is supposed to be a solemn funeral for Christ our Saviour.

I wanted to light a candle pero baka mabagsak lang. Nung araw kasi halos lahat ng bahay merong sinding kandila pag dumadaan ang prusisyon.

Since I was busy distributing the white towels, I asked my son to video tape the procession of Santo Entierro

The men wearing white t-shirts,  mukhang madungis na at mapawis eh yung mga bumuhat sa Entierro.

I hope more men, including the younger generation, participate in our town’s yearly observance of Holy Week.

Good Friday is a day that I always look forward to. Immediately after the procession has passed our location, before we could even reach home from Binangonan , I am already counting the days.  It’s on April 3 next year.

The Giwang-giwang is the highlight of my whole year.

This is Oh my buhay and this is my faith.
