Edmund’s brother, Edward, and his family have settled in Canada. They found new opportunities and are happy they moved. They are all praises for their new found home. Although they still keep their house in Iloilo, Canada is now where they see themselves enjoying the rest of their lives.

I don’t think I would like to retire here.
It’s nice to experience Christmas in the midst of snow, in postcard white surroundings at least once in our lifetime. But I don’t think I would want to spend EVERY Christmas in freezer-like temperature. I get so tired wearing two inner thermal wears, one blouse, one cardigan, two sweaters, and one heavy winter jacket, and a shawl.
It could also be gloomy and sad. Malungkot kasi mahirap lumabas ng bahay. Eh di nakakulong lang kami ni Edmund sa loob. We will get sick and tired of each other. Bad weather is bed weather only for honeymooners. At our age now, bad weather is simply bad. Period.

Beautiful house near the airport. I was just curious, I called the realtor and inquired. She was laughing when she answered my call. She’s Chinese. I could tell she was eating something. I asked how big the house is, she said 3,300 sq. ft. I asked how much, she said C$3,580,000.
When I asked how many bedrooms and bathrooms, she told me to Google it and look at the website, then she hanged-up the phone. I think their main market is the rich mainland Chinese. The houses in this area used to sell for $400,000. A lot of Chinese moved here before and immediately after the HK turn-over. Old houses were torn down and replaced with mansions to cater to the nouveau riche.

Young people will enjoy more this kind of ice challenge but not Edmund and I, baka madulas kami, manginig sa ginaw, ma freeze ang bumbunan nya.

Edward is convincing my husband to move here and explore the kind of activity they are into. He said this country offers the opportunity to really make it big. He said living here will add 15 years to our lives because we will enjoy life without stress. Pilosopo naman itong asawa ko. Eh di 80 + 15 = 95 na daw sya nun.

Actually Edward doesn’t know much about our life. He lived in Iloilo, and in the past several years, they spent more time in Canada, coming home to the Philippines once a year to visit. I think it’s nice of him to think of his brother’s welfare.

Any place on earth we can find opportunities. But admittedly, progressive countries offer a more structured and orderly system which provides for job stability, and business security which enhances economic growth. The government or state have laws that protect business owners unlike in the Philippines when in some cases, the government’s subjective rules and regulations are oppressive and thus add to the difficulty of doing business in our country. Our laws change like the weather depending on who is in power.
