I’ve always wanted to buy one piece of solid acacia wood to be used as a dining table. I didn’t know where to put it because we already have a dining table at home. I think I now have a space for it, in our farmhouse.
There are dozens of traders selling mostly acacia wood in Santa Rosa – Tagaytay Road. I checked out the prices at the beginning of this year and they ranged from 25,000 to 50,000 depending on the sizes.
Last week I’ve decided I was ready to buy a 3 meters long solid wood for my table at the farm. I went to two stores and was shocked at how expensive the woods have become. Gone are the 50,000 – 80,000 range. A 2.5 meters long x .90 wide is P120,000 to 140,000 each. I found an unfinished 3.5 meters long by 1 meter wide and the owner wanted 150,000. When I haggled, she agreed to shave off 10,000 only. My head was spinning. I didn’t know that in less than a year the prices of wood would double or even triple.
Somehow I also feel guilty patronizing wood cutters. I couldn’t imagine how old this tree must have been only to be cut down by loggers. Sayang.
I didn’t buy. I am not sure yet if I want to spend 140,000 on a dining table we would seldom use. Isipin ko muna. I’ll decide in February. Baka by that time naman eh 200,000 na isa. Nay ko po.
ms annie let me know if you still want to purchase table top in wood. i know someone selling for a very reasonable price
