Sunday Mass in Molo Church and Bibingka

July 29, 2018

After a long lunch in Breakthrough Restaurant, we attended the 3 pm Sunday mass at the Molo Church or Church of St. Anne. Our intention was just to visit the church but a mass was about to start so we decided to sit through till the end.

We arrived at exactly 3 pm seconds before the mass started.

The priest is very young. He looks like he is in his mid 20s. According to him he was newly ordained, like 30 days ago and this was his first mass celebration. The young priest is from Iloilo.

Edmund and I both dozed off while the mass was on going. Good we didn’t fall off our chairs and didn’t snore, well I hoped.

This church was built in 1831. I wonder if this two wooden sub-altars are original.

The Neo-gothic colonial church looks so pretty from a distance. It’s like a beautiful flower in the middle of Molo. It not only beautifies its surroundings but it bonds the people living in the city together.

After the mass we crossed over the Molo Plaza because Edmund wanted to buy the mini bibingka sold by the vendors positioned alongside the main road.

Bibingka is native rice cakes made of grated coconut, ground rice, sugar and a little bit of water to create the batter. It’s then grilled in small tin cans lined with fresh banana leaves.

The smoke coming from the improvised grills added to the sun’s heat. It was so hot that afternoon.
