Long Lunch at Breakthrough Restaurant

July 29, 2018 Iloilo

We went to Breakthrough Restaurant in Villa Arevalo District about 20 minutes from our hotel.
We’ve been here before with Oyen and Nyke.
It’s located by the sea and fresh breeze continuously blew on my face. Pag sobrang mahangin, nabubugbog naman ako.
I was starving but was overwhelmed by what was available. It was also kind of chaotic due to the hundreds of people having lunch.   Well,  it was a Sunday.
We were lucky we got a table right away.

The alimasag was still alive and kicking.

A guy ordered this big lapu-lapu but after it was weighed, back out na sya eh kasi naman it was big and heavy P1,247.50 plus tax plus service charge pa yan.

Edmund and I went to the big aquarium to choose fresh seafood.  There were only a few alimasag left and they were small.

Breakthrough is owned by marine biologist Raymundo Robles and his wife.   It was his idea to put this restaurant up for his wife.

Breakthrough became extremely successful and has become one of Iloilo’s top tourist destinations.  They must be raking it in. The crowd keeps coming.

It took several follow-ups before our food finally arrived. A solid one hour of our lives were wasted while waiting for our order. I was beginning to feel dizzy from hunger.
slow cooking

This grilled pompano was already cold when it reached our table. That means they failed to serve our food as soon as they were cooked. Fish is best eaten immediately after cooking.

The steamed crab was lukewarm not hot.

Even the clam soup was already lukewarm and not hot. It was not served immediately.

I regretted ordering alimasag. They were payatot. I should’ve just ordered the king crab.

Our lunch date would have been perfect had they served our food immediately after they were cooked. We wasted an hour waiting. Buti na lang both of us were in good mood. Naalala ko tuloy when we had dinner here with Oyen and Nyke, we also made several follow-ups before our food arrived. Slow cooking or slow serve?

Mangoes were clearly marked. You cannot interchange the prices. I don’t know how they determine the individual prices. Mas mura siguro yung maasim o yung malapit ng mabulok.

We ordered halo halo in a buko shell.

For 120 pesos, with one scoop of ice cream and shaved ice as smooth as snow, Breakthrough’s buko halohalo is tops. Good they served them fast before the ice cream and ice melt.

Seven times washing of hands and still the crab smell lingered.
