Morning newspaper headlines in the Philippines is all about bad news. Evening tv news is also the same that’s why I no longer watch the evening news. I am beginning to shun CNN also because lately it’s all about bad news too. Americans are also having a daily doze of angst about their new president’s preoccupation.
Last week’s banner stories will continue next week. The center of attraction is Lelia De Lima, once one of the most powerful women in the Philippines. Former Chairperson of the Philippine Commission on Human Rights, former Secretary of the Department of Justice, and currently a duly elected senator. Her life has turned upside down according to Pantaleon Alvarez, currently the Speaker of the House of the Representatives.
During the phone interview with broadcaster Pia Hontiveros, House Speaker Alvarez added that De Lima should be jailed at the mental hospital instead. I think high ranking officials should refrain from making unnecessary comments that might give the impression na mababaw sila. They are supposed to be called dignitaries. So dapat, medyo dignified ang mga lumalabas sa bibig nila.
I caught a short clip of President Duterte’s reference to De Lima “itong si De Lima, putang ina nya….” Ano kaya ang history ng putang ina? Bakit laging putang ina na lang. Nakakasawa na, palitan naman natin ng “bruhong ama nya” o “supot na tatay nya”.
Oyen asked me last night what I thought about de Lima, if the drug charges against her are true.
Frankly speaking, I don’t have any opinion. My thoughts have been occupied with many other important things.
My friend from the NBI told me Dayan was really her boyfriend and she also went to bed with her other bodyguards. If she is fond of inspecting her drivers’ and bodyguards’
itlog ng pugo every morning, that doesn’t concern me and our country. If she was a drug protector and received money from them, then she should be put in jail. However, even if she’s guilty, she must be accorded with some degree of respect still. Her sentence must be fair and just, devoid of any political vendetta.
Side note: If you’re wondering why there’s a teddy bear in our living room, eh dyan talaga sya nakaupo day and night. His name is Andrew. He was my prize at the Golf Week Tournament 3 or 4 years ago in St. Andrews. Prize for being a golfer’s companion. It has a partner bear wearing a blue shirt but I chose this red one. I hope to get the blue one next time Edmund joins the golf week tournament.
