Gift-giving (and receiving) will be tipid this Christmas.

This year is very challenging for many of us around the globe. I’ve seen big men cracking up on the prospect of becoming homeless come January 1, 2021, because they’ve lost their jobs and couldn’t make the mortgage payments. Sa ating mga Pilipino, kukupkupin natin ang ating kamag-anak kaya hindi sila magiging homeless.

But there are still those who don’t feel the crisis because they are in a very good situation. Their businesses are not affected negatively. To some, the pandemic has brought them robust opportunities and continuous growth. An example is the sardines manufacturers in the Philippines. They continue to soar every time there’s a local calamity like floods, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, and lockdowns.

For the rest of us, the negative effects of the pandemic in our livelihood dampen our spirits but we must try to strengthen our resolve to soldier on. Kailangan tapangan natin. I know madaling sabihin, eh ako nga ninenerbyos din.
I know better times are coming. Hopefully, in just a couple of months, we would start feeling that things are getting lighter.

Christmas is here, ilang tulog na lang. Instead of focusing on material ways of celebrating it, let’s pray for one another. If we have no money to buy gifts, let’s hug our loved ones and let our love be felt.

Let’s draw our strength from one another and hold on to our faith. I believe good times are rolling soon. Let’s hang on. Let’s keep praying.
