Today is My 50th birthday

It’s midnight and it’s now official. Today is the XXX time that I am celebrating my 50th birthday. Because I am such a liar and denial queen, my mind could no longer tell my real age. Pati asawa ko, idinamay ko na rin sa denial ko. Ask him about my age, he’s trained to lie too,
Friend—–“Pare, ilan taon na ang misis mo?”
E———-“45 yata sya”.
Friend—–“Ang layo pala ng agwat nyo”.

Last monday morning over breakfast, my husband reminded me how old I am.

E———“Bukas, sa Myerkoles, birthday mo na”.
A———“Tart, ang tanda ko na”.
E———“hehehe”.
A———“Dati pag narinig ko mga singkwenta na, naku ang tanda na nila, ngayon, eto na ngayon, ganito na ako katanda”.
E———“ako nga nung nasa barberya ako, nakita ko sa salamin, Ay sino yang matandang yan? Ako pala yun. Kulubut na ang mukha ko”.
A———“Naka salamin ka kasi, pag tinanggal hindi ka na sanay”.
E——–“Ako nga ang daming wrinkles, o o”.
A——–“Bakit parang dumilat ang mata mo? Baka nagpa alis ka nung talukap?”

Back to tonight:
12:25 am I am actually sleepy but I don’t want to sleep. I went down to the kitchen to get a glass of cold water. I saw some sliced oranges. I finished about 8 slices. As I was staring at the kitchen island, I just felt some sadness. There are still things that weigh on my shoulders. Mabigat pa rin, lagi akong may kaba, lagi akong may worry.
While I was going up the stairs, my tears began to gather. Ooops, birthday ngayon, dapat HAPPY birthday, avoid crying-crying and dramatic moments.

My children gave me very nice and expensive gifts. I am thankful for their love and generosity. My daughter has been busy finding a global health provider/insurer for Edmund and I. I didn’t like because the dues were astronomical. But she’s worried we could get sick while traveling just like what happened to me last year. She worries about our health. Sometimes she acts like a mother. My son has his own way of expressing his love. He has a tendency to shower me with beautiful stuff which he thinks girls like. Sana pala dinamihan ko na ang anak para marami rin akong matatanggap na gifts. If I had 6 kids, I would receive a minimum of 6 gifts.

The best gift a mother could have not only on her one single birthday is peace of mind. Knowing that her children are safe and healthy. That they are smart and not too trusting. That they are careful and prudent in everything that they do.
Knowing that when I am gone, they would be able to live a life that’s fruitful, meaningful, peaceful and free.

Just celebrate
