I was scheduled to speak today before approximately 60 residents at Barangay San Andres in Cainta. However, the activity was canceled to give way to a birthday celebration in honor of Barangay Captain Benson Conde.
This is the second time the HUKAB campaign has been canceled in that barangay. The first cancellation was due to heavy flooding in the area. On that occasion, instead of conducting the campaign on sexual abuse awareness, I brought and distributed 160 relief goods bags to affected residents.
The incidence of sexual abuse in the area is concerning, largely because the barangay is densely populated, with many homes built very close to one another. The congestion and high population density increase vulnerability, especially among children.
We have not yet set a new schedule for the HUKAB campaign, but I sincerely hope that this time it will finally proceed as planned.
