According to tv reports the governor of California, Gov. Gavin Newsom, ordered 200 million face masks from a Chinese automobile manufacturing company BYD. BYD is reportedly suffering from bankruptcy and it’s not clear why California entered into a deal that big with BYD which is not even a medical health maker. BYD manufactures electric cars and has a plant in Lancaster, Los Angeles county.
The 150 million masks are N95 for medical workers and the 50 million are regular surgical masks. According to the reports, the masks are coming from China and not from Lancaster, and could be costing a lot more for the American taxpayers.
