I had a meeting with a barangay captain last week. He is on his second term and wala naman daw syang kalaban. He succeeded a much older man who retired after serving for several terms. I’ve also met his predecessor and just like him, pareho silang magalang pagkausap ko.

He asked me to support Francis Tolentino for senator. Francis ran and lost before and next year he is giving it another shot.

Kap said KUNG yun daw ay magkaka meron pa ng election. Baka daw kasi maipasa yung federalism eh di baka sila pa rin ang nakaupo, wala ng election.

Walang election? I think most if not all incumbent officials will support the idea of being in power forever.

I quiver at the thought that we are not going to have any election. That would mean the end of our right to choose although wala naman talagang mapagpilian, sila-sila rin, paulit ulit lang.

I was saddened after reading the news yesterday that some officials are maneuvering to alter our democratic system by removing Vice President Leni Robredo from the list of successors of Duterte. I have no favoritism and although I have a pair of yellow slippers and a yellow bag, I do not belong to any political group.
I am worried that our lives are in the hands of only a few people in government.
