100 year old Banyan trees

There are many giant banyan trees around Waikiki.   The Hawaii State must have  a strict law to preserve them because big hotels and commercial establishments don’t cut them. The design and structures are built around the trees.

The banyan trees seedlings were brought by the Americans from India more than a hundred years ago and planted around the island to provide shade.

Some hotels have courtyards with 100 year old banyan trees that serve as awning or canopy.

This magnificent banyan tree at the back of  the Westin Moana Surf Rider was planted in 1904 and it overlooks the ocean front of the hotel and shields the hotel guests from the sun.
