2nd day in Manila

For more than a month,  I endured toothache during my stay in California.  It’s actually teethache kasi apat ang sumasakit.  My sister wanted to bring me to their Pilipino dentist,  $80 daw consulation.  Ayaw ko kasi baka mamaga then I would have downtime while there,  mas mahirap.

10am was my dentist appointment but ang traffic, sobra,  but admittedly,  I woke up late because of jet lag (good excuse).  It took us 40 minutes or an hour to get to Kapitolyo which should otherwise take only 12 minutes.

Dra. Elizabeth Cenidoza Carrasco

“The Grilling” chair

Beth said my teeth are strong but have cracks because I grind my teeth daw while I sleep.  This is hereditary daw kaya both my kids have mouth guards.  Naku ibig sabihin kailangan din ako mag mouth guard.  Waaaa that’s P12,000 for a pair (upper and lower).

Beth’ brother Dr. Eric Cenidoza is also a dentist. Sya yung naka assign in extracting wisdom teeth. His clinic is adjacent to Beth’s

From the dentist, I immediately went to Robinsons Galleria and had panoramic teeth xray as prescribed by Beth.  The clinic in Galleria asked me to fill-up a form.  I skipped answering the birthday, etc.  which I found completely unnecessary with the task that I went there for.   I argued that they did not need those info.   As a compromise,  I just gave them the privilege information,  my “real” age.  The one that is not available to the public.  The one that is not rounded-off to the last decade.

I was starving after the xray.  I realized I haven’t had a thing.   I wasn’t craving for a particular dish or food.  I just felt I needed something to eat, to live.   I saw Old Spaghetti House.  I scanned their giant menu at the entrance.   I decided okay I’ll eat here.

I ordered Fish with Garlic Fettucine, P179 including taxes.

When I was paying,  they did not want to accept my credit card.   What?

“May minimum ho”.

Me-   “magkano?”

P300

Ha?  eh bakit walang sign sa labas.  Dapat may malaking karatula.  E pano kung nakakain na tapos wala palang pambayad? (gaya ko)

I started searching for some cash in my bag… Oh oh.  no money si Annie.

When I arrived from the US yesterday,  I gave my son his baon for a week and for his books daw P2,000.  I paid the dentist P1,700 plus may utang daw ang daughter ko ng P700, so P2,400.  Tapos the panoramic xray was P800.

The woman probably realized wala talaga akong pera so she hesitatingly swiped my card.

Di ba dapat they should put a big sign outside.   Many restos are like that. They don’t have credit cards,  tapos no sign na “CASH ONLY”.  eH pano na yun,  hugas nalang kami ng pinggan pag hindi nakabayad.   For split second,  I imagined my daughter coming to my rescue and bail me out.

So People of the Philippines next time,  alamin muna kung may credit card sila.  At be sure bring 2 cards,  para kung ma-reject ang isa,  meron ka pang isa.
