Asian Eye and Mamou - Oh My Buhay

Asian Eye and Mamou

I had my eyes checked at the Asian Eye Institute located on the 9th floor of Phinma Building across Power Plant Mall. There were so many patients and the waiting and diagnosis took a whole 3 1/2 hours, plus half-hour lunch break. I was there by 1:30 pm and left at 5 pm.

I filled up a form for new patients, then after half-hour, I was called to a room where they checked my eyes’ vision using a small gadget. Then another hour waiting and I was called for another vision check using the traditional “read the letters on the wall that get smaller and smaller”.
Another half hour of waiting and here comes the doctor, Dr. Harvey Uy. He’s Chinese (obviously) and graduated from Xavier. I like him. He uses simple words in explaining to me what’s going on with my left eye. He made me feel everything would be alright. And I was confident that he knew what he was talking about. Ikaw ba naman ang may pasyente na 50 to 60 a day, pag naman hindi ka pa natuto at na practice nang husto.

Dr. Uy said the eye flashes I’ve been experiencing were most likely caused by my jogging. Yes, remember that one day when I chased this 72+ year old woman in the village? Since I don’t jog naman on a regular basis, parang naalog ang brains ko and my retina and the jelly-like ball, I forgot what it’s called. Sounds improbable but true. That’s what caused the 3 day head-ache that wasn’t a migraine but felt like my brain was separating from my skull. It was followed by flashes of lights on my left eye. He said everyday he gets 4 to 5 patients with same condition which occurs in 50 to 60 year old people. That’s it (again), that means I can no longer lie about my age and pretend that I gave birth to Julienne when I was 12.

I paid P1,100 only, no medicine to take, but I had to come back when the right eye gets flashes. “When” because he said, it would surely come.

I am wary of camera-looking gadgets in public toilets.

I am so ignorant. Ano kaya ito? I don’t want to see my butt on you tube.

There was no canteen or restaurant in the building where Asian Eye Institute is. So I went to Rockwell to take a quick lunch. I got attracted to the red drapes so I ended up inside this rated restaurant called Mamou.

I was the only one in the resto at that time.
I orderd spring rolls. They were tasty. According to the waiter it’s a popular dish.

This oriental seafood noodle was a total disappointment. I am not a food blogger or a gourmet critique but with all due respect to the chef or Mamou owner, they should re-evaluate this dish. Is this a tom yang goong? NO. Is this a seafood noodle soup? NO. You cannot consider a slice of young corn, squid ball, imitation crab stick SEAFOOD.

I asked for water, the waiter said they only have bottled water. When I asked if they have filtered water, he said they only have rockwell water. I asked what is rockwell water? he came back with a glass of water. I did not ask if that’s rockwell or gripu water.

This key lime pie saved the day. Without the cream, I say it’s a 7. Smother it with the cream, it’s divine!
