My son and I went to Island Pacific Supermarket in Union City. It is about 10 minutes drive from my sis’ house in Hayward. This place is where we drop-off balikbayan boxes, buy turon with langka, pande coco and puto bumbong. It’s also a place to just hang around when you simply miss home.
I saw a black car parked in front of the grocery with Sanrio motiff. Dash board, seat covers, ang daming stuff toys sa harap at likod, stickers sa body etc. Iba talaga trip nating mga Pilipino.
Costco is another istambayan of Filipinos. You will never feel alone when you are here.
One time I saw a high school classmate of mine inside Costco, may bitbit na pandesal. Isosoli daw nya kasi matigas na. Imagine, we haven’t seen each other for about 25 years!!! Dito pa kami nagkita.
Costco has a good wine selection.
When you are not busy, take time out to visit wine stores. Remember, fruit cake used to be the favorite Christmas gift. Then it became cake, or ensaymada. Nowadays, the most popular all occasion gift is wine. Be sure you know their value because it’s almost certain that in your lifetime, you would receive at least a dozen. Memorize the prices so you know which to recycle or to keep in your ref for your special muni-muni nights.
They sell flowers too.
Even if there are no housemaids here in America, life is made easier. Fruits are already arranged in plates and ready to serve if you have parties, and ready to eat. There are also plenty of party plates.
My son was so amazed by the size and weight of this watermelon. American size daw.
