risk of radiation

Edmund and I attended the town hall meeting this afternoon in our barangay.  I arrived at 5:20 pm during which a certain Dr. Peralta from the Department of Health was lecturing the attendees that the cell antennas pose no health risk to us.  I initially thought she was from either Globe or Smart.    She’s a scientist daw.

Edmund came in an hour later.  I didn’t know he would be attending too.

It’s not exactly true that the radioactive frequency emitted by the macro cell site towers is not carcinogenic.  It is in fact classified as “possibly carcinogenic”, meaning there’s a possible chance that it may be carcinogenic.

Yes it’s true that cancer is multi-dimensional,  it could come from many sources.  Cellphones, television emissions, microwave,  etc.  The usage of gadgets still give us some kind of choice.  We may choose to limit our phone usage,  we turn-it off,  we sit away from the tv,  or we watch only for one or two hours each day.  When re-heating food, we stay away from the front of the microwave.  I trained my kids to stand beside the microwave, not directly in front of it.   But with the 30m antennas,  that’s a twenty four hour exposure to radiation.  Whether it’s strong or a weak source,  the fact remains that it has radiation.  We would be exposed every breathing second.

E and I were one of the most vocal against the towers.

When I stood up to voice out my sentiments,  I didn’t dwell anymore on the health issues, but rather,  the manner the board of directors of our nearby village are doing the negotiations with Globe and Smart.  We were never informed beforehand.  I told Mr. J.D.  our neighboring village’s current president,  that  we share the same community.  In the spirit of goodwill and respect, we should have been informed beforehand, before they signed the MOA, before they accepted the P25M check from Smart, before they accepted the P25M check from Globe.  The residents living so close to the proposed antenna location should have been given prior notice.  In deference and out of respect.    Can you imagine, if they want to sell their houses?  Walang bibili if there’s a 10 story high steel tower right across.

They are going to have a referendum,  vote Yes or No.   Sila lang ang may botohan.  so I questioned that.  That’s unfair.  We belong to the same barangay, why would our votes not be counted?   he said “if they vote No, you’re safe,  if they vote yes, let’s talk”.  I screamed on the microphone Noooo!  That’s unfair.

Our  votes matter too.  We belong to the same barangay.    Ang mga pulubi nga pwedeng bumoto, kami pa?

I said, “your vote is going to be yes because you’ve been campaigning for the residents to vote Yes”.    I saw him frown.   I told him what they’re doing is very disrespectful.  We only found out about the antenna a couple of days ago.

Mrs. Paterno attended last week’s meeting.  When she stood up and raised question,  according to Benny,  a certain Mr. V told her, “if you don’t like what we’re doing here,  why don’t you leave”.   ibig sabihin, lumipat daw ng bahay si Mrs. Paterno.  if he indeed said that, that’s so yabang naman and rude.  Ang yaman-yaman ni Mrs. Paterno ha, she has two houses here.   Her lot is 1,200 sqm.
I wouldn’t know what I would have done if I were in the shoes of Mrs. Paterno.  Ako kaya ang sabihan ng ganyan, manginginig ako sa galit.  Baka mabato ko sya ng sapatos ko.  Bagong bili ko pa naman ito,  Hush Puppies.

Hush Puppies shoes

Some people living in this village are feeling so high up there.  Siguro mga nagtatai ng mga dollars.   Baka ginto ang pang-is-is sa kawali, and Perrier ang pang flush ng toilet.  Naka Ferrari daw kasi.  Sobra sigurong ang dadaming kumita ng salapi kaya akala mo hindi tatablan ng kulam.  We breathe the same polluted air, inhale the same alikabok,  we all bathe with the same NAWASA water, our vehicles have the same number of wheels, APAT, kahit Ferrari, apat lang din ang gulong, so we are all equal.   By having more money than the rest of us doesn’t make others better persons.

Edmund went home at 7:30 kasi gutom na raw sya. They were serving food but we didn’t eat there.

We came in two separate vehicles.
Some residents hang streamers on their cars. I contributed P500 for the tarpaulins. They were not soliciting but I voluntarily gave P500 even if they didn’t need money.

Our health and welfare are more important than having fast internet connections.  The towers’ radioactive frequency  have been proven to increase the thermal or heating effect on a person’s body .  Our body temperature would increase.  If you have hypertension,  you may be at risk.

Other health issues are not yet established of course because sicknesses, deaths, could not be singularly and directly attributed to cell site’s radioactive frequency effects. Kasi ang daming causes ng cancer. But this could be a contributor kaya ang dami na ngayong may sakit.

If you climb to a higher floor, and you’re closer to the tower,  you’re increasing your risk of cancer.  Closer?  500 meters nga ang abot nya.  so kahit saan ako sumuot sa bahay namin, abot na abot ako.   Higher floor?  Eh pano ang roof deck namin?  Mahilig pa mandin si Edmund umakyat dun, lalo pag umuulan kasi yung mga dahon nababarahan yung alulod namin, nililinis nya.  Eh di pag nadun sya yung bumbunan nya matatamaan ng radiation.

Obviously masama nga sa ating lahat.  so why risk it?

Neighbors, please vote NO.
