Forever Young - Oh My Buhay

I am waiting for the day that zap travel would become a reality. Zap yung hindi na kailangan lumipad pa ng airplane. Tsunnng, adun ka na sa pupuntahan mo. No more danger of falling from the sky. I am sure it would become a reality, not soon but later. Matagal pa siguro. Dedoks na ako nun. Kaya lang the airline companies including plane manufacturers would rally against it. Mawawalan sila ng negosyo. Eh mag isip na lang sila ng iba. Like flying house.

I got drained from our trip back from Korea although it was only a four hour flight. Siguro sa nerbyos ko. I needed to rest or nap for a few minutes to have some energy before welcoming the New Year.

At 6 pm, I went up to our room and laid down on the bed. Edmund left the tv on.
Basta I just stared at the old movie being shown. Napansin ko tila Russel Crowe yata yung actor. I got stuck watching the movie. Hindi na ako naka idlip.

Forever Young is a 1992 film about romance and science fiction. Its tagline was “true love waits forever”

The lead actor, Daniel McCormick was at a diners (sa America uso yan) and trying to practice his proposal “Ellen, will you marry me?” He kept repeating and trying to perfect his delivery. Then his beautiful girlfriend (Isabel Glasser) appeared. She was in a hurry, she just dropped by to say hello to him. He tried to delay her by ordering blueberry cheesecake. He finished na his cake and still he couldn’t muster the courage to propose to her. Until she stood up and left. He ran after her and caught her just before she went out the door. She was at the phone booth beside the diner’s door. He kissed her on the lips (sarap), pero he wasn’t able to asked her to marry him. He let go of her. She went out of the door. Daniel phoned his best friend Harry “I almost said the words…” While he was recapping with Harry his lack of guts to propose, the bar tender knocked on the phone booth’s glass wall. “I think you should go outside”, he told Daniel McCormick.

He went out, he saw a small crowd of people gathered around something. He squeezed between them and saw his girlfriend Ellen sprawled on the street, bloodied. She was hit by a fruit delivery truck.

Ellen went into a coma. All the doctors said there’s nothing much they could do. The told Daniel (her boyfriend) that she would never wake up. Of course Daniel was devastated. He was tulala and crying. He told Harry he couldn’t imaging life with Ellen. All his life, Ellen was there. They were childhood friends.

Ellen was transferred to a care facility. Still in coma after 6 months, Daniel would stay by her side all the time.

One day he was at Harry’s house, feeling depressed and distraught. There was a phone call to Harry and Harry told him that he has a project and this guy chickened out. Apparently, Harry is a scientist and has invented cryogenics.
Daniel volunteered himself to be the guinea pig.
Daniel———-“Use me, I have no family, no one is going to look for me. I am fit, I am strong, I can handle it”.

The only condition he set… “Wake me up when Ellen wakes up”.

It’s supposed to be a one year experiment only.

Daniel McCormick (Mel Gibson) was placed in a copper and steel chamber, naked.

Next seen:
There were two rowdy boys (one is Elijah Wood) playing and chasing each other around the military storage warehouse. They found themselves inside a warehouse. They reached the sulok part where the cryogenics chamber was stored. They opened it, makulit kasi, and there was Daniel, still asleep. His reflexes made him grab the boy’s jacket. The two boys got so scared and ran away.
Eto na, nagising na si Daniel. Hubo sya kaya he used the boy’s jacket to hide his thingy. he still looks the same, young, handsome guy. He started walking and he got out of the warehouse. He stole some clothes from the sampayan. Next thing, the boy who found him, provided him shelter in his tree house.

Daniel became friends with the boy and his nurse mom (Jamie Lee Curtis). They helped him look for Harry, but he could no longer be located.

One time, Daniel was back at the military area when he saw a big streamer that had the year 1997 yata. He was shocked. It’s been 30 years na pala since the time he was placed inside the chamber. Kaya naman he couldn’t recognize na the faces of the people in that town.

He finally traced where Harry Finley lived. A middle aged woman answered the door. She’s Harry’s daughter and her father had been dead for two years.
She led Daniel to her father’s office where Daniel searched for clue about his condition and about Ellen. He found a picture of Ellen with a little girl.
Nurse———–‘is that your child?”
Daniel———–“No, we never married”.
Daughter of Harry—- “That’s me on the picture, with Ellen”.
Daniel——–“Impossible, she died before you were born”.
Daughter of Harry——“Ellen is alive”.

The military nurse helped Daniel steal a plane from the hangar. He was a testing pilot kaya he knew how to fly fighter jets. He and the young boy flew to where Ellen lives. They found each other. She’s too old na rin. The first thing that Daniel did was to hug and kiss her, then he finally was able to propose to her. He didn’t waste no time asking her to marry him.

He told the boy when you want to tell something to someone special, you must not wait, say it the first chance you get, because you might not have a second chance.

I told Edmund and Oyen the story.
Oyen——“mom, what’s the title of the movie?”
Mom——-“Forever Young”.

Oyen——“That’s not Russel Crowe, that’s Mel Gibson”.
Mom——-“Oh naku anak sabi ko pa naman sa Daddy si Russel Crowe yun, kamukha kasi”.

The chamber pala was mistakenly inventoried as water tank and was misplaced that’s why for 50 years, it was forgotten.
