Heneral Luna the movie

Our first attempt to watch the movie Heneral Luna was a week ago.   When we reached Eastwood Mall, there were no more vacant seats except for three that were spread out and two were right in front of the screen.

The veteran lead actor, John Arcilla, with Rachel Weisz and Jeremy Renner (Bourne Legacy).

The best thing to do is to buy the ticket ahead of time and that’s what we did yesterday. I sent the driver to Eastwood City Mall at 9:30 am. He complained that the cinema would open at 11 am. I told him to wait there so he would be the first in line. When the cinema opened, they pulled out na pala Heneral Luna from Cinema 5.
It’s now in Cinema 2 at the old Eastwood City.
I told the driver to go there by foot. He thought he has to drive.
When he reached Cinema 2 he complained that they open at 12 noon. Sabi ko syempre maghintay sya.

He was able to get 3 tickets for 6:15 pm showing.

The movie theater was filled to the brim. There were still many buying tickets for the next showing. We were glad we already have tickets otherwise that would be stressful.

There were queues for popcorn and burgers.

Edmund used to order butter popcorn but after witnessing what looked like sandok-sandok na oil being poured into his popcorn, he switched to plain popcorn.

A handful of people clapped their hands after the movie has ended.

I am very proud of the people behind this movie. The producers, writers, actors, supporting staff, movie extras. I also am very happy that their work is well praised and appreciated, counting the number of movie tickets sold that so far has reached the one hundred million peso mark.

I am sorry to say that after watching Heneral Luna the movie, I felt ashamed of being a Filipino for several minutes. Parang hiyang-hiya ako sa mga ugali natin. That’s a big statement. But I felt really embarrassed. Heneral Luna was right, our biggest enemy is ourselves. In this movie, kitang-kita ang masasama nating ugali na hanggang ngayon, after one hundred years, eh dala-dala pa rin natin.
Sipsip, maka-pili, maka sarili, ma-inggitin, maling uri ng kayabangan, doble-kara, walang sariling pag-iisip.

The Americans did not massacre Heneral Antonio Luna, we Filipinos did. The Spaniards did not butcher Andres Bonifacio, we Filipinos did. We killed them for what? Dahil ang mga namumuno ay nakukuha sa choo-choo. At ang mga tao ay utu-uto. Ganun tayo nuon, ganun pa rin tayo ngayon. Naipasa na ang maling ugali sa mga susunod na henerasyon. Kaya pala we are like this.

Let’s focus our attention to Emilio Aguinaldo. Let’s review our history books. Do they say the truth about him? Are we giving him the wrong reverence? Is he deserving of our adulation? Was he a hero or the biggest villain? He was referred to as a revolutionary, or was he more of a politician? Heneral Luna and Andres Bonifacio suffered the same fate. Did Aguinaldo order their assassinations?
Ang tanong, ibinenta ba tayo ng buhay ni Emy sa mga Americano?
