Manila Art Fair 2015

My kids and their significant others accompanied me last Saturday night to the Manila Art Fair 2015 at the SMX Convention on the third floor of SM Aura, Taguig City.
I was the first to arrive at the art exhibit. Followed by Oyen and Derrick who came from the PhilConstruct Fair so they were tired.
The next to arrive was Nyke and Mela.

Entrance tickets were at two hundred pesos (200) each.

While waiting for them to arrive, I started making usyoso the art pieces.

There were many up and coming artists. I could see the difference in styles and subjects in the younger generation.

Do you see what I see?

There were foreign artists who’s works were also on exhibit. Oyen fell in love with a metal sculpture done by an Israeli artist who’s currently in Singapore.

There were very few masters compared to their 2013 exhibit.

Oil on Canvass by Romulo Galicano, P1.8M 2015. One thing I noticed about Galicano is that his style varies. I would not have thought that this mga puno ng saging was his work. The colors were vibrant and cheerful. Meron naman syang mga parang antique style na aakalain mo eh 100 years old na. I personally like his old style.

Congresswoman Lucy Torres loaned her beautiful portrait done by Romulo “Mulong” Galicano. If you want to have something like this, it’s going to cost 1.5m to 2M depending on the complexity or details necessary. if your gown is full of borloloys, hayun, it would be a lot more expensive. The artist directs the professional photographer on the angles and artistry. Once you’ve chosen your photo, Galicano will borrow your gown so he could copy the exact details. The process could take several months to more than a year kasi maraming pila.

Arturo Luz, SRP 2.2M, an art collector reserved it at a discounted price of 1.9M. Three days later, the art gallery contacted me saying that the deal didn’t push thru. I visited their booth and signed on the guest book at the Manila Fair. I inquired about a small Luz painting which they didn’t have. Maybe that’s the reason why they thought I would be interested to purchase it. I am not in that league. Wala akong pera pambayad ng ganyang kalaking painting.

There’s a smaller one offered to me by a friend for 340k ten months to pay (10 gives). Syempre the long payment terms were only offered  to me because we’ve known each other for more than a decade. Akala nya kasi hindi ako tatakbo. Ha ha. Hindi sya nakakasiguro. Mabilis ako tumakbo. Her friend who also owned a small Luz sold it to an art collector from Dasmarinas Village, Makati.
