She's Engaged - Oh My Buhay

June 17, 2019, Monday

Edmund and I had dinner and were entering the garage when my phone rang. It was my daughter. I was distracted because I was about to get off the car while holding my cellphone, my shoulder bag and a supot. My daughter was saying hello mom, mom, then I heard her boyfriend say “nasa garage”. My daughter was still on the phone while patiently waiting to speak to me. That’s strange because normally she would either say she’ll call again or call me later. This time she stayed and naka-skype pa kami. I sat down on the sofa and focused on her call. “Anak hello” realizing that her boyfriend was beside her looking at my gulugulo hair and naked face, I told my daughter “naku anak hindi ako nakaayos”. Then she said “mom, look,……. proposed”. Then she flashed the back of her hand on the screen, I saw a diamond ring on her finger. I went “oh, oh, he proposed”. You’re engaged. I noticed her eyes were red and bulging. I said “anak why are you crying, are you not supposed to be happy?”

Oyen earned a free trip to Sydney together with several other auto dealers courtesy of East West Bank Auto Loans department. It was for two people so she brought along her BF. They were in Sydney when Derrick proposed and the Bondi beach became the perfect proposal venue. Oyen was probably overwhelmed by the sudden surge of emotions that’s why she was crying. Naki iyak na rin ako. Although Edmund and I were expecting that eventually she would get married, but the reality is I would need some acceptance algorythm to feel good about this. Would this mean my motherhood ends or is it just starting but on a different level? #lolahood
Frankly speaking I feel like she’s still young, not young-young, but there are a lot going in her life. She still wants to go to France and stay for a month to immerse herself in French culture and language.
she’s beginning to forget her French because there’s no practice. She still wants to do this and that.

Edmund heard what it was all about so he said congratulations. There’s nothing else for me to say but congratulations anak. After we put down the phone, I called up my son. Nyke already knew because his sister phoned him first when she couldn’t reach me. Nyke said hello mom. I was quiet. My son said, “mom are you crying? Oh don’t be sad, I thought you want her to get married?” I finally was able to say something. “kasi feeling ko bata pa ang achi”. He tried to rationalize things. He mentioned about her biological clock. After he mentioned that, something sparked, bigla kong na imagine that our family is going to multiply. We’ll have a baby apo in a year or two. Sige na nga. How come I didn’t cry when Edmund proposed? I had no emotion whatsoever.
