Cheaper Electricity

I attended the talk of Atty. Francis Saturnino C. Juan, Executive Director, Energy Regulatory Commission at the PLDT Hall in UA&P.  He gave a  brief overview of Open Access and Retail Competition.  The by-line of his presentation was POWER in your hands.

Atty. Juan presented it in a manner that would  be easily  understood however,  it couldn’t be helped that some terms were  very technical.

For us,  ordinary Meralco customers,  what we just want to know is when would our agonies stop?  We exert effort and are conscious of our electricity usage but no matter how dark we keep our homes  at night,  our monthly bills keep on going up and up, rain or shine, hot or cold.

When my husband arrives home,  he would turn on the lights.  When I arrive home,  I turn off most of the lights.  One night he told me   “Madadapa na’ko sa dilim”.

In a nut shell,

We have the highest power rates in the whole world.

Yesterday,  Meralco announced an 8 centavos increase per kwh.

Contestable consumers will have the options to choose their RES (Retail Electricity Suppliers) in 2012 or 13.  Contestable consumers are those that consume 1 MW or approximately P6.5M a month electricity bill.  If you have a shopping mall or your house is bigger than Megamall,  then you are in this category.

ERC said that we, end users or households will have a choice of electricity suppliers in 2020 (soonest).  I am very skeptic about this.  Look at the list of accredited RES,  same faces with different lipstick!

I do not believe that we, the electricity consumers, would ever be able to get fair deals from this so called RES (Retail Electricity Suppliers).   If ERC is talking about year 2020,  Dyos me, ang layo pa ‘non.  and by that time,  Meralco & Napocor had already raked in mega bucks from all of us.  Did you even notice the refund Meralco was supposed to give to us?  And who checks the computation on our monthly bills?  If they added P2 we wouldn’t be able to tell.   Kawawa naman tayo.

  1. yes, that’s true just like same dog different collar only. And most of Meralco’s employee once they retired automatically they’ll get their mo. pension, presumably got from consumers pocket!
