July 11, 2019, Cambridge

After I paid my tuition fee in May, Harvard sent me a list of 10 recommended hotels but when I contacted them, they were already booked for the duration of my intended stay. There are many hotels in Boston but the school is in Cambridge although Boston is only 15 minutes away.

After searching for hotels that are walking distance to the school, I found a small hotel called A Friendly Inn located some 0.5 miles from the campus. But Harvard campus is huge and the distance is relative to the location of the particular building. The Chinese guy who answered the phone told me Harvrd booked the whole hotel except for the one on the lower ground floor. After assuring me that the room has airconditioning, away from noise, has its own toilet and bath, has wi-fi, I booked it right away. I might run out of choices for being too choosy. My intention was to buy time, till I find a better alternative. But since I was busy, hindi ko na sya naasikaso to search for a nicer hotel.
A Friendly Inn is staffed by Chinese people because according to them, they get a lot guests from China so the management thinks it’s best to have Chinese-speaking guys around to welcome guests. The house is situated along the main road but not as busy.

Here’s my residence for the next ten days, a hundred year old Victorian house, I hope walang multo.
