Blessing of New Pila-pila Church (part 1) - Oh My Buhay

Blessing of New Pila-pila Church (part 1)

I panicked the night before because I only got to read the committee’s invitation at 12 midnight, when Malou asked me if I am going. I never knew that Facebook has a message section, masyadong akong behind. The letter was sent last April 18 and if not for Malou, I would have missed a very important event, the blessing of the new church in my mom’s barrio, Pila-pila. For an important occasion like this, It would have been nice also to receive a hard copy of the formal invite. Anyway, I am just happy that I was able to go. Kala ko the blessing would coincide with their barrio’s fiesta in August.

The committee’s president Jaymar, told me “Mam Annie, Filipiniana”. Naku all my Pinay dresses are sikip na so I ended up wearing a blue lace gown made by Amir Sali. It has mini sleeves and the tela is butas-butas which I thought would be my best option since there’s no aircon. (I have worn this once at the Royal Ball).
I thought it would be presko rin because the event is at 6 pm and the church is on top of a hill, so I told Edmund “mahangin dun”.

Edmund hesitantly wore a barong, kasi sabi nga Filipiniana. Edmund is not a barong person. The last time he wore one was probably 5 years ago. I just made him bring an extra polo shirt.

We left our house at 4:20 pm and arrived in Pila-pila at 5:50 pm. The band played as soon as we got off the van.
Tiyo Bibit was the first one that I greeted, and he asked “bakit kayo naka ganyan?” He turned to Edmund “O bakit ka naka barong?
Me———- Ang sabi po kasi Filipiniana raw.
He said —- Hindi, ang sabi ko smart casual.
He was wearing a polo shirt, his son Jimmy Duavit wore a short sleeves polo”.

Gov. Ito Ynares came 5 minutes later also wearing a short sleeves cotton polo shirt. Same with his son Gov. Junjun, who wore an aqua polo. Kawawa naman si Edmund, makati na at mainit pa yung suot.

Mukhang Kapitan del Barrio si Edmund

I never knew that the 100 year old kapilya built during the Spanish times was completely torn down. I only found out from Tiyo Bibit when we were standing there and waiting. I thought it just underwent a major renovation.

  4. I’m happy to see pictures of you and Edmund present in the blessing of the New Pila Pila Church (Nuestra Senora delos Angeles). I know you are one of the patrons of the church’s renovations few years back and I’m glad that you didn’t missed the important event in Pila pila…:)

  5. Thanks insan your posting (video and still pics) helped us to savor this very important blessings na tayong mga tubong Pilapila has to cherish. Kahit malalayo kami whatever good things that transpire in our sinilangang baryo..masasaya kaming lahat sapagkat ito ay habang buhay na biyaya para sa ating lahat. May the blessings of the Lord be with us all specially to the people who were used as an intrument to make all this things possible.
    Thanks to the Duavit family.

Sayang.
