I feel blessed that I grew-up in Binangonan where Byernes Santo is observed in an old Catholic tradition. That’s why our family doesn’t go abroad or take vacations during Holy Week. I prefer staying put so I could go to Binangonan on Good Fridays or Byernes Santo.
We used to go on Holy Wednesdays too when my parents were still there, joined the town procession and ate dinner, but we haven’t done that for a few years now because there’s no comfortable place to stay while we wait for the procession to start. As I get older, my tolerance of the heat and humidity is becoming almost nil. In the future, maybe I’ll have the chance to build something there so we could hang-out longer.
Huwebes Santo pa lang, I sent na the maids and the driver to clean the place where we would stay for a few hours on Byernes Santo. They brought carpet, timba, the huge condenser fan, tables, chairs, etc. They brought the white towels that I would give-away, 5 big containers of filtered water, cooler, and more supplies on friday at 12 noon.
By the time we arrived at 4:45 pm, the place was set-up. We had filtered water, 3 sacks of tube ice, etc.
The first thing that my daughter did was to look for the fishball vendor. We have suki who looked forward to our arrival everytime because we bought practically all his stuff.
My nephew Justin Tan, Julienne & Marvin
The vendor’s bicycle was stolen, so now they have a motobike instead. Sobrang class.
We bought trays and trays of fishball, squidball and chicken hotdog.
My sister in law, Elsie, sent one caldero of delicious sopas. This is our version of Fasting, eating so-fast and too much.
Hi Rianne, you want fishball also?
Rianne is 10 months old and is the 2nd daughter of my nephew Owel, the eldest son of Kuya Ben (+).
The procession started before 6 pm while the sun was still up.
When I was little, the procession was only single pile, today, no more pile-pile, only siksikan, there’s just too many people.
I wonder why the parish priest never joined in the Good Friday procession.
Free iced filtered water, some people look for juice or softdrinks.
Binangonan is the loyal follower of “go and multiply”.
Jill, Marvin, and the maids separated the towels one by one so that when I gave them away, hindi magka dikit dikit at hindi mag doble.
(to be continued)
hi annie,
you promised me a book…
thanks.
but when do i get it?
I brought it to bin. twice but it was night time so I wasn’t able to send it to your school. May I have your home address so my driver can bring it to your house after work?
hmmm… we grew up on same street, i saw one of your pics its in libis go straight ahead “dulo ng valencia street” dun kame… i miss that place so much, i remember those times na iniintay namin ang pagdaan ng prusisyon ng friday, kakamis talaga..
Hi,
Holy Week is a good time to come and visit your home town. You would hit several birds in one stone.
The Holy Wednesday procession, the Giwang-giwang procession, the BCHS Grand Alumni which is traditionally scheduled a week after Lent, etc. super init lang because it’s summer time.
