Tips to Avoid Debilitating Heat

Nahihingal ako sa init. A few times I felt I was going to faint. Kahit nasa bahay lang ako, even with aircon, iba pa rin ang pakiramdam. Unless my face is right in front of the aircon vent. Next year I will stay in a cooler town or city from April to May. Like a migrating bird, I will leave Metro Manila to avoid frying in debilitating heat.

We are all contributors to global warming. Computers, tablets, cellular phones, motor vehicles, airplanes, factories, gas and electric stoves, lights, air-conditioning units, electric fans, lahat na. How many times do you charge your phone? Hawakan mo yung socket, ang init. Yung laptop, grabe ang init especially when I am uploading to You tube. Internet modems, boosters, etc.
Lahat yan ang init.

It’s not enough that we switch off the computers when not in use, we must switch off the voltage regulators and unplug the socket. While there’s a pilot light, it continues to consume electricity and generate intense heat. Sige hawakan mo yung voltage regulator. Pwede yan masunog.

Motor vehicles– the problem is in the traffic. Instead of the engine running for only 15 minutes, we are stuck in traffic spewing smoke and heat for two hours. Multiply that by millions of vehicles plying along EDSA.

Washing machine and dryers— nung araw, wala naman ganyan. Let’s just dry our clothes in the sun. Let’s discard the use of dryers. Yung clothes, tupiin na lang or hang properly, never mind if it has creases. Wag ng magplantsa. Ako nga I go to the office even if my clothes, pants, or blouse is gusot-gusot. It doesn’t make me less of a human being by wearing clothes that are clean, mabango, pero gusot.

Refrigerators and tv— the household helpers have their own television and refrigerator. I will remove their ref na lang. They may use the ref in the auxiliary kitchen.

Let’s voluntarily adjust our lifestyles. Use one cellphone na lang. Plan your road trips. Limit computer, aircon and television usage.

When we went to the church last Saturday, I brought a wet face towel. I placed it all over me, on my forehead, my nape, my face, my legs. I left the wet towel in the van while we’re inside the church. It was very dry when we came back after one hour.

Nothing could stop my husband from playing golf kahit 45 degrees na, golf pa rin.
He had a face towel daw with ice and instead of walking the whole 18 holes, he used a golf cart daw. Even then, mainit pa rin. Ayaw papigil, pwede na syang magluto ng sunny side up sa bumbunan nya.

Architects, developers, home owners– for new constructions– plans must adopt to the global warming. Design buildings with more natural light and natural ventilation.

Plant more trees.

  1. Hope you get relief. I hate extreme heat, too. Electric companies should also alter their business model to harvest more renewable energy, especially solar energy. With all the technology, there’s really no excuse.
