Goodbye Contractor - Oh My Buhay

I took over the construction of my one bedroom one toilet cottage house. After 7 months, I said goodbye to my contractor. I’ve had enough.  Naubos kasi pasensya ko when I was asking his foreman about the thickness of the roof that he ordered.  I said gauge 5 ba?  Instead of simply saying “hindi mam,  gauge 4 lang kasi yan ang instruction ni engineer”.  Dinagdagan pa.  Gusto ko pala daw ng gauge 5 eh di sana sinabi ko agad para yun ang inorder nya.  He even added that he is just following the orders of his boss,  which is not me.  That I am not his boss,  buti nga daw kinakausap nya ako.   That’s it,  ubos na ang mahaba kong pasensya sa kanila.   Ang bait ko pa dun sa mga workers nila,  tuwing bibisita ako,  I gave them Jollibee, clothes, meron pang Fundador.   On their last day,  naawa pa rin ako,  I gave them a bottle of Fundador again.

The steel trusses have started to rust. I spent a gallon of paint and two days labor to prevent further corrosion.

I went to the supplier where my contractor supposedly ordered the roofing materials. I found out his foreman only ordered the long spans enough for half my roof. I rejected the delivery. I had the whole roof measured correctly and I ordered everything that I needed to cover the house. I also ordered insulation and gutter.

Out of consideration, I ordered the same dark maroon color that the foreman ordered so I could use the rejected roofing materials for the barn.

After I paid half, in three days, the materials were delivered and installed. See, I now have one tiny red roof.

Ang bilis. In one day, the gutters had been installed. On the third day, finished na.

The contractor did not include a toilet and bath so ako na lang ang maglalagay. The new workers have started work on my tiny toilet and maid’s room. Para akong masu-suffocate sa liit nung banyo. When I commented “ang liit naman pala”, the new foreman disagreed “Mam, ang laki na nga nito”. The two of us have different concepts of space.

I am adding an open balcony para malagyan ko ng papag at maka idlip sa tanghali sa sariwang hangin. Sarap.

My modern bahay kubo with ugly red roof. If I didn’t take over the construction, for sure wala pa akong bubong hanggang Bonifacio Day.

  1. Ms Annie.. Based on our family’s last experience with an architect and his contractor, ganyan talaga sila pag hindi nababantayan..

😉 Konting pasensya na lang, and u will soon be decorating the interiors of ur cute cottage.. 🙂

Enjoy ur weekend and God bless u with MORE PATIENCE and PERSEVERANCE, Ms Annie.. 😉
