Grabe tayong mga Filipino

I’ve been away for a little over a month. In a span of 6 weeks, I have made many new acquaintances from different nationalities. I have gained many new Filipino American friends. I feel that when we are in another country, we have a natural tendency to reach out to our kababayan and are really excited to see our kauri and meet them. Siguro dala na rin na miss natin ang ating bayan. We miss home.
I thought that’s really nice of us. We care for each other. We have a natural bond and meron tayong malasakit sa isa’t isa. We wish each other well. We are happy for their successes here in a foreign land. We don’t want to say goodbye to each other but rather we look forward to seeing them again. How nice. We feel like we’ve been friends forever. An extended family to be.

B U T, on the contrary, when I watch / read the news from home, all I see are away, bangayan, PATAYAN, distrust, deceit, anger, war. And the foul language that we use. From the government officials including the congressmen and ordinary citizens. It’s very easy to call a person gunggong, mga bobo, putang-ina mo. Ano ba naman yan. Grabe tayong mga Filipino. Para naman wala tayong magawang mabuti sa buhay at sa kapwa. Parang ang sasalbahe natin. Hindi naman tayo dating ganyan ah. Bakit ganun?
