I don't like to wear suits - Oh My Buhay

I don't like to wear suits

When I attended the Philippines Inc. and Manila Overseas Press Club meetings last week at the ballroom of Hotel Intercontinental, I wore a suit from Nine west. These were business meetings so I thought a pants and suit would be more appropriate.

I was making paypay the whole time. I felt so hot, not warm. I was the only female at our table and my paypay ng paypay made the men wonder, they were looking a me. They wore suits too but maybe they didn’t feel hot. They were probably concluding, si Annie my hotflashes na.

After that night, I promised myself not to wear any more suits, at least for the next few summer months. I inventoried my cabinet and I had no more decent clothes to wear to meetings.

I went to Amir Sali’s shop beside Ford Connecticut in Greenhills. I arrived at almost 5 pm and Amir was there with a Muslim bride fitting her wedding gown. I didn’t see the gown because they were inside the draped fitting room, but I saw the young bride and her mother when they left. She’s very slim, Amir would have an easier time dressing her up.

Amir has a collection of textiles/ materials he bought from Europe. I told him my problem – I have no more decent dress to wear to the office and meetings. I just want a simple dress, with short sleeves para hindi mainit, and no embellishments. Amir kasi is known to be the prince of beads, he likes to put super complicated beadworks.

He showed me some printed materials which he bought from Paris, Bulgaria, and ewan ko ba. I told him the problem with prints is it’s easy to remember, I cannot wear the dresses again and again, people would say “Di ba yan ang suot nya kamakailan?”
But i trust his taste, so I told him bahala na lang sya, make me anything and I’ll wear them.

This gown is so elegant. It was worn by a ninang sa kasal, who’s the aunt of another famous designer Rajo Laurel.
She brought it back to Amir after the wedding to have it cleaned kasi natuluan ng toyo at the reception.

This photo doesn’t do justice to the beauty of the gown. In actual, the gown is super elegant. The back part has beadworks too. Ang ganda.
