After three consecutive days of sizzling temperature that reached over 111 degrees in this part of California, we were awakened this morning by loud thunderstorms and lightning that sizzled in the sky, the kind that could start a fire.

My daughter watched the spectacular lightning show from her bedroom window. She didn’t wake us up for fear that we wouldn’t be able to fall back to sleep. She knew we’ve been having trouble sleeping.

I didn’t leave my bed but half of my consciousness was aware of what was happening in the sky. I thought it was good to have rain to combat the heat. The rain poured but disappeared quietly as the sun showed up. The few minutes of rain quenched the thirst of our plants and trees. And any amount of rain is most welcome most especially when there are fire and severe heat warnings.

Edmund captured this enchanting rainbow at 6:28 am after the skies had cleared.
