Our plan to stay in Seoul for 3 days became 12 days

Our plan was only to have a personal consultation with one of the foremost in spine health, Dr. Junseok Bae, but my husband decided to schedule the surgery immediately.

The planned three-day stay became 12 days. We hope to travel back to Manila tomorrow. We moved our flight the second time around and this time, I paid Pesos 4,552 per passenger x 2 = P9,104.  I didn’t ask anymore what the payment was for,  maybe rebooking fee.

We miss home. We miss our apopoo Theo. Our daughter is scheduled to deliver by CS on August 28.
My Kuya Junior’s twin grandchildren are in Manila for a visit and by the time we arrive, they’ll be gone. Thanks to Oyen who managed their two-week holiday despite everything going on around her. They are with a childhood friend, also puti. He got robbed and mugged in BGC, that’s another long story reserved for another day.

Edmund’s been managing the pain which comes in highs and lows. We grade the pain in a 1-10 scale, ten being a terrible pain.  It’s really hard when it’s a ten.  Three is already good.

The biggest fear that after the operation he could lose his ability to walk is gone.

The doctor changed the antibiotic to a much stronger one after they discovered the fluid leaking from his wound.

The wound is still fresh and needs restitching. Tinahi uli yung certain parts na nakabuka.

Edmund’s wound

The new pain killer given to him beginning yesterday seems to be working well. We’re hopeful this is the right medication but after Edmund Googled the side effects,  hindi rin pala maganda kasi the blood pressure can shoot up which could lead to a heart attack.  Nanay ko po.

My husband explains to the resident doctor that it’s still very painful.

August 17, 2025, Sunday

Dr. Bae shortened his family holiday in Jeju Island and showed up at the hospital this morning. My husband was surprised to see him because it was a Sunday. The doctor came to dress Edmund’s wound and he pointed to me that it’s inflamed. The pain will persist while it’s still swollen and when that area is pressed. He reassured us that the pain will subside and the wound will heal in due time.

My husband said pass the paper, whether the test paper is finished or unfinished, we’re going home tomorrow. He will recover faster when he’s at home where he is most comfortable.

While  I was seated here at the hospital lobby,  I saw this grandma being swarmed by her 4 grandchildren.  They hugged her and seemed excited to see her.  I was touched.   I had seen her  around here in a hospital gown, walker, and back brace.  Magaling na sya.

My husband is taking control of his situation and the pain.

We went down to the lobby and refused to walk with a walker. Kaya daw nya. I told him even if he doesn’t need it, it reminds him to walk slow. Talking about a stubborn old man.

Edmund walks without a walker

I hope and pray that his pain will continue to subside until it’s gone. And that Edmund will be able to go back to his normal routines.
