I salute Pope Francis for rejecting outright the oil painting done by a certain Dante Hipolito. The artist painted the image of the Pope surrounded by Filipino celebrities. Kapuso ba sila or kapamilya?
What was the artist thinking? My guess is that he probably already has this painting without the Pope, long before the Pope arrived. Maybe he just revised it and added the Pope’s image. Baka kaya isiningit or idinagdag lang nya si Pope?
The presence of artistas is commercialism. The celebrities may order copies of the painting for themselves. Di maraming benta.
If this painting was done with deep faith, pure intentions and the Holy Pope in mind, this would not come out like this. The artist would be guided by the Holy Spirit.
