Pay first before u die - Oh My Buhay

Pay first before u die

I went to a nearby bank this morning.  While waiting for some documents to sign,  I whiled away my time by looking at the list of foreclosed properties which were pasted on the wall just above where I was seated.  Last year, this list was positioned right beside the teller. I noticed that there’s a memorial lot in the list.

As morbid as it sounds,  we all would die and   whether I like it or not I would surely go somewhere too,  I just hope in a peaceful and serene place called HEAVEN.  And I also pray, not yet, not sooner,  but rather later.  30 years from now, kung okay lang sa’yo Lord.

My wish is to be buried in a place where my family would be able to visit me conveniently.  Twenty years ago,  I thought of Binangonan, Rizal.  We have a lot there.  But there are thieves that steal the stones, bamboo trees, etc.  My worry is baka hukayin ako at kunin ang mga buto ko at ibigay sa mga aso nila.  Sabagay dead na ako,  no more worries.  Pero ayaw ko na dun.

Going  back to that listing,  I approached the lady bank manager.  She phoned their head office in Makati and spoke to the officer in charge of Asset Management.

Manager gave me the phone

Me—  Hello,  I’ve been seeing your listing of an estate lot in Heritage.  May I offer an amount that is lower than your indicative price?

Man– Oho,  pero basta huwag masyadong malayo sa price namin.

Me—  Ano’ng terms dito,  10% down?

Man–  Cash ho sana.

Me— Ay, wala akong cash.

Man—- Cash talaga ang gusto namin dahil mahirap na baka bilhin tapos gamitin….  Mahirap na, pa’no yun?  May nakalibing na. Kaya dapat cash talaga.

Me—-  e di you put in the restrictions that they cannot bury their dead if it’s not yet fully paid,  or if they want to use it, then buyer has to fully pay first the amount.

Me—-  I am the one buying,  I don’t intend to die yet while I am still paying for it.

(TSE!  Nakunsumi naman ako dito sa taong ito).

Man— sige ho mam,  25% down ho ang requirement namin.

Me—  Di ba 10% lang sa foreclosed?  And how would I know where it is?

Man—  ay Mam,  sasamahan ho kayo.

“mam,  dito ho kayo pwedeng ilibing”)   How sad and morbid.

If my mom were alive and reading this,  she would scold me.  I knew what she would tell me “Ano ba’ng bata ito,  masama ang MAMBI”.

I bet the young generation doesn’t know that word.

Anyways, what is MAMBI? 🙂

    1. Hi,
Mambi doesn’t have a specific English word equivalent. It’s Tagalog for “be careful with what you wish for”, or like negative wishes, or saying things that are not good, it might come true.
      Thanks for reading my blog.
