Religious processions are important to me. They are a big part of my life. My mother was a member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL). Their group, wearing veils with their navy and white uniforms, were usually at the beginning of every procession.
In the town where I grew up, every now and then, merong prusisyon. Pag Holy Week, feast of Sta. Ursula, birthday of Mama Mary, Flores de Mayo, etc. Meron din tinatawag na Lutrina, supposedly to drive away evil spirits. It’s like a mini procession. They do this pag merong parang hindi magandang nangyayari, like may nakulam, nabalis, nabaliw, may nakitang kapre, may suspetsang mangkukulam, may nakitang multo, etc.
I know it’s been two weeks but I still want to show these photos taken last Byernes Santo in our town Binangonan, Rizal, some 26 kilometers away from Megamall.
Procession photos courtesy of my nephew Justin Tan. When I saw his camera I decided not to shoot anymore. His was bigger and definitely better. Thanks Justin.

Whenever I watch processions, I always feel a deep sense of joy. Happy to be alive and given the chance again to be there. I wish and pray that next year I would still be able to participate in the Holy Week celebrations, and the year after that, and after that, and after that, and forever.
WONDERFUL post.
