Razon’s halo-halo

We didn’t eat halo-halo in Bahay Kawayan kasi it was too noisy when we were there for lunch. I told my husband I just wanted to go to Razon’s.

From lunch, we drove around Marikina and Cainta so by the time we got to Razon’s in Katipunan Avenue in front of Ateneo University, it was already 3 pm.

The number of government permits prominently displayed on the restaurant’s shelf is clear proof of the presence of so many red tapes businesses have to deal with while doing business.

Busog pa kami but when I saw the diguan at puto on the menu, nagutom uli ako. My husband ordered the same thing. Ako daw ang gaya-gaya, sya nga eh. So waiter, two dinuguan with puto and two halo-halo please!
I requested that my dinuguan be HOT. Ayaw ko warm, gusto ko hot.
They served it warm, not hot.

The very first time I ordered Razon’s halo-halo a few years ago, I didn’t know that it only had leche flan, saging na saba and macapuno. I told the cashier, “Miss, isang halo-halo, ayaw ko ng leche flan kasi sobrang tamis, paki sabi wag lagyan ng saging at macapuno”. She looked at me in disbelief.
“Wala ng matitira. Yelo na lang”.
At first I didn’t understand what she meant. Yun pala kasi yun lang ang halo. Even with those three main ingredients, Rason’s halo-halo is delicious. I sometimes crave for it.

Notice the frequent tv commercials of other restaurants advertising halo-halo. Summer na kasi. Filipinos will spend at least 5 billion pesos on halo-halo alone this summer.

Razon means reason. There are plenty of reasons to be happy. One is eating halo-halo.
