We went from one Rolex store to another looking for the exact style Oyen wanted, and to compare also the suggested retail prices less possible discounts.
Edmund suggested that we contact the duty free shop to get the exact price net of the 6.10% VAT refund. Contacting the King Power duty free store by phone proved futile so we took a cab and went to the King Power Duty Free shop located in the city and not at the airport terminal.
It’s an impressive building.
The King Power International Group operates the duty free shops at Thailand’s airports. They also operate the duty free shop on the cruise ships in Asia and Europe. The chairman and CEO was billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. He died together with four other people on October 27, 2018, in Leicester City, UK, from a helicopter crash. Vichai was succeeded as chairman by his son, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha.
The Rolex and the other watch brands are located on the 3rd floor.
The white dial or face is made of mother of pearl, the pink in the middle is also a mother of pearl, the third one’s dial is a pink-colored metal. Mother of pearl is more expensive by around $2,000.
They can give a 5% discount according to the two very tall sales ladies, but has to be approved first by the manager.
We left without buying but we were able have a good gauge that it could be possible to get a 5 – 10% discount.
We went to another store in the city. They have the same inventory and same discounting.

We visited two more stores not to compare the prices, but to find the exact style Oyen wanted— colored pink mother of pearl dial with roman numerals. The store on the ground floor of Central Embassy mall has it. Even with a 12% discount and a 6.1% VAT tax refund, the net price still went beyond the budget limit suggestion by almost 20%.
