A Salute to French Style

The closing dinner of the 2014 Global Summit of Women was dubbed “A Salute to French Style”.

My interpretation was that we would be seeing dresses by top French designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier or Yves Saint Laurent.

There was no French haute couture. The well prepared fashion show was all about Malaysian fabrics and Malaysian designers.

The Malaysian First Lady gave her full support to GSW. Imagine the country’s expense in bringing to Paris all the dancers, designers, performers, and their costumes and dresses.

I enjoyed and truly admired the Malaysian designs except that I wished there was a also a segment by one or two French designers in keeping with the theme “French Style”.

There was no French designer included in the Fashion show. Maybe what they meant with the theme “A Salute to French Style” was that the clothes made of Malaysian fabrics and by Malaysian designers were of French style. Ganun siguro.
