September 11 - Oh My Buhay

  1. Ten years ago on this day, I woke to see videos of planes crashing into the twin towers. I remember the whole nation waking up in a stupor, stunned to find that our bubble of peace had been shattered. I remember sitting in class (USC) listening to the radio with my peers, numb and unable to respond. We shall never forget. But in our weakest moment, we revealed our greatest strength. When our countrymen cried out for help, thousands of men and women rushed to throw themselves in harm’s way. This is who we are. Our strength is neither in our military nor our economy. Our strength is in our unity, our compassion, our willingness to sacrifice for each other. We will never forget the victims and heroes of 9/11 because they represent the best of us. We will honor and remember you always.

    The outpouring of compassion and support was not limited to Americans. I was overwhelmed by the support we received from other countries. Websites appeared within hours with photos and videos of solidarity, condolences, and empathy. It was an important reminder that none of us stand alone; we are all connected by our basic humanity. As we remember those who fell and sacrificed themselves ten years ago, we must also remember and thank those who stood by us in our darkest hour.

    “Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness.
    We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love;
    we must meet physical force with soul force.
    Our aim must never be to defeat or humiliate [a man],
    but to win his friendship and understanding.”
    – Martin Luther King Jr. 1958

  2. September 11 opened the world to the dangers of extremist groups who’s beliefs are to cause chaos. I hope all nations live in friendly atmosphere. No killing and no war. Peace!

  3. The world must not forget the awful sight of people jumping off the World tower, we must all unite to fight against people who only wish to harm good and peace loving nations.

  4. Simply wish to say your article is as amazing. Thank you 1,000,000 and please keep up the enjoyable work.
