Spanish ceramic tiles

I have always wanted to have a colroful kitchen back splash made of handpainted Spanish or Italian tiles.

More than 8 years ago, I found some really nice ones in San Francisco but the costs were prohibitive at $1,500 – $5,000 per set depending on the size and design. I was also worried of potential breakages so I thought maybe I would just hire an artist to paint on tiles I would source locally.

I found some nice white tiles made in Italy. I delivered them to the female artist. We agreed on the price and the delivery date. The day she was scheduled to deliver them, I spoke to her a couple of times on the phone and she kept on saying “mam, parating na ako”. She never came. She never called, She never sent me a text. More than 8 years have passed, too this day, I have never heard anything from her. Where are my tiles? So many scenarios have played in my head for almost ten years. Do you think she met an accident on her way to our house? Is she dead? Or she just made me believe that she did what I agreed upon but she never painted those tiles. But where did she bring my Italian tiles? Or maybe she did finish the hand-painting but she decided to sell it to her rich client for a big amount?
It still remains a mystery to me. Woman, where are my Italian tiles? If you copied the drawing, that is my drawing!

Bigla ko syang naalala when I saw this store selling exactly the ones I’ve always wanted for my kitchen back-splash.

I didn’t buy because bringing them to the hotel would be a problem. They were heavy. packing bringing home was also a problem. There’s door to door from Barcelona to Manila but because I was pressed with time, I felt overwhelmed to make those arrangements. I ended up not buying.

    1. Hi Yoly,

I no longer expect that she would one day show up and give me back my tiles. I was just baffled by what she did.
      Thank you for your concern.
