Spiders on a roll

To say that I am scared of spiders is an understatement.  I don’t know why and how I developed this phobia but I am truly, intensely scared of this creatures.  And I can’t seem to understand that given the fact that I should be the last one to see spiders,  I am always the first one to be exposed.

A while ago,  I saw a big one,  stucked on the sticky paper the pest control guy placed in the garage.   It was really big.

I don’t exactly look for them,  but for some reason,  they show their faces on me.

One morning,  we were on our way to the office but still cruising at low speed inside the village where I lived.  I was seated at the back,  driver and Jerry at the front. Then I thought I saw something move from my peripheral vision.  I looked to the front  right passenger window.  To my horror,  there it was, the biggest spider I have ever seen in my whole life.  It was inside the vehicle,  our vehicle.  It was approximately the size of a man’s hand with legs spread out.  The head alone was at least 1  1/2 inches tall.

I screamed so loud,  the driver immediately stepped -on the brakes,  I jumped off the vehicle from the left door,  the car behind us screeched and honked it’s loudest horn.  I ran to the sidewalk and started crying.  I called Edmund on his cel,  in 5 minutes he was there.  They found the spider on the front wheel,  Jerry kicked it so strong and hard, it’s whole being scattered all over.  Everyone who witnessed that agreed that it was the biggest spider they have ever seen and couldn’t believe  they could grow that big.

After that dramatic episode parang pang sine,  I never wanted to ride in that Expedition again.  Edmund already thought of selling it. It took me about 6 months before I rode in that vehicle again.

I analyzed what could’ve transpired.   There was an old yellow coconut tree right at our gate that was felled that morning.  Jerry left the pasenger door of the Expedition open while they were waiting for me.  They parked it at the gate,  right infront of where the coconut tree was.  Maybe the giant spider had been living in that tree.

I had several nightmares after that day.   Edmund told me that a few days later,  about 5 am,  I stood up and started jumping on the bed as if I was avoiding something.   He instinctively knew what was going to happen next so he positioned himself to catch me.  True enough, I jumped from the bed to the floor and almost hit the bathroom wall had  he not caught me.

My daughter always order spider roll when we go Japanese.   It’s actually soft roll crab.  They plate it with the legs dangling upwards.   I never liked the name of that sushi.
